About Me

Darrell Stevens founded Harmonix Media after decades of working in the Broadcast and Video Production field, but you could say the origin of Harmonix Media may be found in Darrell’s early childhood, when he eagerly sought new and creative ways to entertain the neighborhood kids with a variety of “make it up as you go” live performances, along with the help of his close friends and fellow burgeoning creatives. I guess you could say it was a rough version of improv.

From there, it was inevitable that Darrell would experiment with other forms of entertainment media. He later graduated to borrowing his dad’s Super 8 home movie camera to make such epic films as “Silly Day” and the sequels, “Silly Day 2” and “Silly Day 3” (without sound, of course).

During his college days, Darrell took his education from the classroom to the real world and began learning the professional version of audio, camerawork and lighting at a local TV station. Following graduation, he made the jump to a regional sports network. When the opportunity came along to create music videos for a local band, Darrell’s producing, directing and editing skills were finally put to the test. This venture, under the moniker Penguin Productions, proved to be an incredible training ground for what would later become Darrell’s magnum opus (to be blatantly melodramatic), HARMONIX MEDIA.

Where did the name Harmonix come from?

Well, Darrell explains it this way: while it is possible to kick out some amazingly creative content alone, it can sometimes be… well, lonely. That’s why collaboration is the key ingredient in the Harmonix Media melange. Content always seems to be better with the harmonious blending of creative minds. That’s why the majority of Darrell’s projects involve the contributions of other highly creative and accomplished professionals. This results in the culmination of decades of experience into an outstanding final product that will make any client giddy with delight.

So why the name Harmonix? The late, great Eddie Van Halen may have made harmonics cool on a guitar, but we made it cooler by spelling it with an X.
